National Pro-Life Cupcake Day!!! How did it go?
October 10th, 2008The National Pro-Life Cupcake day was a major success. I received calls and e-mails from around the globe all from people baking cupcakes and handing them out in the name of life. At the same time I spent my day talking to people at our local supermarket about children and choices. We raised some money for our local pregnancy center, encouraged people to vote pro-life, and listened to people’s testimonies about how abortion has affected them. We had a little opposition. Some folks just don’t think all children deserve birthdays however they were just as eager to have some cake and dialogue with us.
I personally learned a lot from working on this project. I not only learned that a thousand cupcakes is a lot, but also that this method of activism is very effective in creating meaningful dialogue. My favorite part was talking to children about the idea that not every child is allowed to be born. I was surprised at how well they understood abortion when put in those terms. Their simple shock that some children weren’t allowed to have birthdays spoke volumes to me about why I do what I do. Children love birthdays and by listening to them I realized just how much God does love children and how much he wants to celebrate their birthdays with them. Cupcakes for life is not only a celebration of life but also a reminder that not every child is allowed to be born. I was amazed at how much God wanted to show me through this little ministry that he gave me the vision for.
