Cupcakes For Life 2009 was an amazing Success!

October 21st, 2009

Cupcakes for life 2009 was an amazing Success! We had so many people trying to log onto our website at once that our whole system crashed twice. How amazing is that? I have gotten to hear about a hundred stories this week of how sprinkles and icing have changed the world. People even heard the gospel of Christ and accepted his free gift with their treat. Because of cupcakes for life some people were born into the kingdom and will be celebrating both there physical birthdays and their spiritual birthdays forever.

One story that moved me was about a girl who had just found out she was pregnant two days before the event. She was scared to tell anyone. However as they baked cupcakes the night before Cupcake Day she felt safe to share her story. Even though she’s a teenager has no money her little baby will be having his first birthday in a year and seven months! This girl would have had every reason to limit the birthdays of her child but she has decided to let it live. How exciting is that?

For the most part the people I talked with found them selves facing very little hostile confrontation. Apparently the cupcakes really soften and sweeten up this conversation. However there have been a tray full of stories of people who did not react pleasantly to our campaign. Unfortunately not everyone loves cupcakes and babies as much as we do. We received a good handful of hate messages from these folks. I’m not sure if we should post them or not. If you want to see them let us know.

One story came to me from a teacher who put some cupcakes in the teachers lounge with a lovely card for her fellow employees. The majority of the staff loved the yummy-conversation starter however the principal didn’t. And on the following day she was fired for offering her “controversial cupcakes” to her peers. These last two weeks have been very hard for her. We are not releasing her name as of yet but please pray for her when you think of it. Let us know what you think of this.

Here are some of our favorite pictures that were submitted! If you have pictures please send them in, you might just end up seeing them on the site!

Get Ready!

September 16th, 2009

Every day we are coming closer to the official National Pro-Life Cupcake Day! Friday October 9th! I am getting calls and e-mails everyday from kids all over the US who are planning on assimilating cupcakes with the pro-life message! There are concerts being put on by churches, there are parties scheduled, kids are working with pregnancy centers everywhere, moms are getting ready to set up at the local supermarkets, and people are already putting together an arsenal of colored icing and sprinkles. Bakeries around the country are getting involved. The creativity of pro-lifers has exploded! And I can’t wait to see the products.

We have no way of knowing how many thousands of people are taking part in this cupcake campaign. However, our Curpcakes For Life t-shirt is flying off the wall! We almost can’t print them fast enough! If you would like to buy them in bulk please let us know through the website and we will contact you. If you have any great ideas or want our help feel free to contact us; that’s what we are here for!

It’s just a few more weeks, so get ready! And please let us know how it’s going!

National Pro-Life Cupcake Day!!! How did it go?

October 10th, 2008

The National Pro-Life Cupcake day was a major success. I received calls and e-mails from around the globe all from people baking cupcakes and handing them out in the name of life. At the same time I spent my day talking to people at our local supermarket about children and choices. We raised some money for our local pregnancy center, encouraged people to vote pro-life, and listened to people’s testimonies about how abortion has affected them. We had a little opposition. Some folks just don’t think all children deserve birthdays however they were just as eager to have some cake and dialogue with us.

I personally learned a lot from working on this project. I not only learned that a thousand cupcakes is a lot, but also that this method of activism is very effective in creating meaningful dialogue. My favorite part was talking to children about the idea that not every child is allowed to be born. I was surprised at how well they understood abortion when put in those terms. Their simple shock that some children weren’t allowed to have birthdays spoke volumes to me about why I do what I do. Children love birthdays and by listening to them I realized just how much God does love children and how much he wants to celebrate their birthdays with them. Cupcakes for life is not only a celebration of life but also a reminder that not every child is allowed to be born. I was amazed at how much God wanted to show me through this little ministry that he gave me the vision for.
